932As a gloomy shapeshifter struggles to find the type of person they want to be, they morph into other people with different roles in life to discover a purpose.
A shapeshifter fearing for his future embarks on a journey of deep thought inside of his mind. The shapeshifter transforms into other people to imagine what it could be like to live in their shoes. Most roles in life may be ideal at first glance, however, all options bring some sort of downside. As the shapeshifter morphs between people, he slowly finds that not all roles can be fulfilled by just anyone. The more he tries to think of the position he wants to be in, the worse he feels. When it all becomes too much for the shapeshifter, he breaks down and takes the time to reflect on himself, learning not to wear the skin of others, and to just be themselves.

This is my third year film for university! Muse is a solo-based animated short film created by me, David (also known as Deltaplanet). This 2D animated project of silhouette characters is a solo-produced short film project with a crucial message: don’t wear the skin of others, be yourself. Muse was created using a mixture of puppet and traditional animation. The project was fully animated within ToonBoom Harmony at 25 frames per second and 1920x1080 resolution, all composited together in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The film is inspired by how some people struggle to find a path they want to take in life. It can be a scary thought. Some people panic and act prematurely, submerging themselves in thought, imagining what it would be like to be in other people’s shoes. This is what the protagonist in Muse goes through. The target audience for the short is young teenagers, since at this age, they have big decisions to make in life. Therefore, they are more likely to relate to the story.
An outcome of this production may be that it reassures teens, letting them know they are not alone with these thoughts and they shouldn’t make themselves feel worse by over-thinking too much about their future. Overall, this project took 8 months to make.
