With proper placement, Sentry Guns in Survival Mode can last you 30+ waves or even an entire game without ever needing to go back and buy another one again which helps in the long run when you come across armored juggernauts and helicopters that can wipe out your squads instantly. I like to think of them as a foundation for a fort that keeps your position secure at all times.
