The MX Linux development team has announced the release of MX Linux 21 beta 1. Check out the news and find out where to download the distro.
MX Linux, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the “stable” branch of Debian, is a cooperative venture between the antiX and ex-MEPIS Linux communities.
Using Xfce as the default desktop, it's a medium-weight operating system designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with simple setup, high stability, solid performance and medium size.
Now, the MX Linux team today announced the general availability for public beta testing of the upcoming MX Linux 21 distribution, which will arrive later this year based on the Debian 11 Bullseye operating system.
What's New in MX Linux 21 beta 1
Called “Wildflower” and derived from the Debian 11 Bullseye and MX repositories, MX Linux 21 is powered by the Linux 5.10 LTS kernel series with long-term support and uses the latest and greatest Xfce 4.16 desktop environment.
Highlights of this first beta release include new and updated applications, a new installer partition selection area with LVM support, as well as new UEFI system boot menus that make it easier to select boot options directly from the boot menu and submenus.
In addition, MX Linux 21 changes to use the user password (sudo) for administrative tasks by default, which can be overridden in the Other tab of MX Tweak, and includes several other small configuration changes, especially in the panel with new plug-ins. standard panel ins as well as new artwork.
MX Linux developers are looking for testers for this first beta release to test the new UEFI system boot menus and installer, especially on real hardware, but VirtualBox testing is also welcome.
“Now you can select your live boot options (persistence, etc…) from the boot menu and submenus rather than using the previous console menus,” explained the devs.
The MX Linux 21 beta 1 release is available for download right now as 64-bit and 32-bit live ISOs, only with the Xfce desktop environment, for now. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for use in production environments.
