1MX Linux is a Debian-based distro with backported programs that allows for latest programs on a stable system. It has a lightweight and fast installer. It's also growing in popularity. DistroWatch ranks MX Linux #1 popular distro (Ubuntu is actually the most popular). DistroWatch is not really accurate for distro statistics. I recommend MX Linux to norms who are switching to Linux.
A reason why you see "Mexico" as a location marker is because of an abbreviation joke that MX is an abbreviation of Mexico.
