My First Shiny Hunting FAIL! 😱 How to Catch Shiny Poochyena in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC
5Hey trainers, welcome back to Gaijin Hideout! Today, we are showcasing our first successful session of (intentional) shiny hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which also happens to include our first shiny FAIL reaction as well! After completing the Pokédex in The Teal Mask DLC, Jeff and Jesse underwent their first shiny hunting session to search for a shiny Poochyena. The two shiny hunting newbies learned how to make shiny sandwiches using Herba Mystica to increase the chances of encountering a shiny Pokémon, and they learned how to roam an area and screen for the shiny encounter.
It lasted over 4 hours, mostly because the first one that Jeff encountered he accidentally let KO itself! Turns out the Poochyena in Kitakami have a high enough level that they know the attack Take Down, which causes recoil damage. Jeff used the False Swipe attack to bring its HP down to 1, but then the shiny Poochyena's Take Down recoil damage earned Jeff his first shiny hunting fail—how devastating! This resulting in the genuinely upset reaction from Jeff that you see in the video. (Fun fact: the live chat didn't remind Jeff to save before the battle because they wanted to trigger this exact series of events. Are they trolls or content geniuses? You decide!) What an emotional rollercoaster of a first shiny hunting session in The Teal Mask DLC!
Depressed yet undeterred, Jeff persisted in his search for literally hours...until FINALLY he found and successfully caught another one. Jeff's reaction was to bask in a dopamine wave comparable to what a gambling addict feels when he wins big as he joyfully evolved the Shiny Poochyena into the blonde-haired and blue-eyed Mightyena. He gave it a previously-decided-upon nickname that might get this channel cancelled (unless you don't get it, in which case don't worry about it) and called it a day. It was one of the more painful ways to learn how to shiny hunt in The Teal Mask DLC, but overall we'd consider it a successful first try. Thanks for watching!
