My thoughts after trying the Hololense
My apologies for the poor light quality but I wanted to share my first impressions with Microsofts Hololense. I think you'll find the overall impression to be... Narrow...
I don't mean that I'm being narrow minded but rather that the FoV is terrible. I'd heard other people complain about it but hadn't considered it much before getting the chance to try it out. As I mention in the video, your viewable space roughly equates to the size of a normal piece of printer paper held at arms length.
It's hard to tell from the video, and the device may have just been put on incorrectly, but I keept having to tilt my head down and look up through the lenses like looking over a pair of sunglasses to get a better look at something. It was very awkward.
I ultimately left the experience thinking that this hardware iteration has no consumer future. I can absolutely see us adopting some sort of AR device in the future. Wearable or smartphone app based that becomes common place within the next 5 years. This, however, is not it. Not this version at least.
Again, sorry that it's just my face for the whole thing. I know no one wants to see that.. I just wanted to capture my first impressions for the channel for what it's worth.
