Review for Child of Light (2014) which is a side scrolling RPG developed and published by Ubisoft - who are well known for their Assassin’s Creed, Rayman and Watch Dogs game series.

The main story of Child of Light (2014) revolves around the players taking the control of a girl named Aurora who contracts an illness which causes her to fall asleep and upon waking she finds herself in the mythical world of Lumeria. As it so happens Lumeria has had its sun, moon and stars stolen by the evil queen Umbra and it’s your job to get them back.

Child of Light (2014) features an active time battle system in which your able to interrupt enemies attacks if your hitting them whilst they are casting. This forces players to strategize when and what attacks you use and when to defend, and during this you can control a firefly called ‘Igniculus’ who can slow enemies down and heal injured party members. You can also use Igniculus in the open world to activate switches, open chests, or stun enemies and best of all it can be set to a second player.

In addition players can craft and equip bonuses which is a nice touch, but I found that constantly switching them out and upgrading them could be a hassle, especially as some gem combinations aren’t outlined in the crafting guide - for example the Princess Stone.

Child of Light (2014) also features an amazing soundtrack, it’s both melonconic and stunning - never feeling over done but really adds to the action, and even features different musical tones after finding hidden treasures.

All in all I would say Child of Light (2014) was a pleasant surprise, and I would thoroughly recommend this game to anyone who wishes for a wonderful story experience.
