Released nearly a decade ago, Black Box's Need for Speed: The Run was supposed to be the game that put the series in a new, different direction with a full story, fully voiced characters and a new sense of gameplay immersion courtesy of DICE's Frostbite 2 engine. What many people didn't know or care for is that there were also versions for the Wii and 3DS developed by Firebrand Games. The Nintendo versions, although very different in the gameplay and graphics department from the PC, PS3 and 360 versions, still retain the story of a cross-country race for survival and riches, but have a different cast of characters, and some altered plot points in the story. This video highlights moments and references to each other in both mainstream consoles and Nintendo versions of NFS The Run.

4:12 - Why The Mob is chasing them

* It's also worth mentioning why both Jack and Matt have a female accomplice that helps them during The Run.

• Jack has Sam Harper, who sets up the deal that if he can win The Run, she will deal with his debt to the Mob and give him a 10% cut of the prize money. She also helps Jack procure new vehicles after he wrecks them. Sam is only seen through the GPS for most of the The Run.
• Matt has Sophia Di Marco, who lends him her Lotus Exige to be able to participate in The Run after his Mustang sank in the bay. She also helps procure a couple cars for Matt after they have been given away or damaged. Unlike Sam, Sophia accompanies Matt in person as his "Co-Driver" for most of The Run.

** In the PC/PS3/360 versions, the winner's prize is $25 million, but Jack will only get a 10% cut ($250K) since Sam will use the rest to deal with the Mob for him.

In the Wii and 3DS versions, the prize is reduced to $1 million, but the winner takes all, and Matt doesn't owe anyone anything. Matt clearly was in for better reward than Jack.

6:20 - The Rival

Both Jack and Matt have a rival that has attempted multiple times to interfere with thier progress or outright kill them.

• Jack has Marcus Blackwell, a man with connections to the Mob who follows him at points during The Run, and will either damage his car or shoot at him directly.
• Matt has Jason Arbor, his former teammate in the racing league. Matt was dating Jason's younger sister Wynona, until she took Matt's car into a race and died in a crash. Jason is seeking revenge against Matt for Wynona's death.

8:15 - Helicopter destruction

9:28 - Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake was used by both characters

10:54 - Pagani Huayra was used by both characters

11:33 - Vehicle destruction

15:23 - Jack and Matt are still on "The Run" (pun intended) after winning.

16:21 - Environment Comparisons

17:12 - Shared assets between both versions

• The sound for using Nitrous is the same between both versions of the game.

• Several songs from can be heard in both versions of the game, particularly during police and mob pursuits.
