Nekonabe [ねこなべ] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
Original Air Date: October 13, 2009
As if the small cult following behind the Stepmania song, Nekonabe, wasn't funny enough, someone thought it would be a great idea to make a game revolved around "Nekonabe". While the song sounds cute and zany to those who don't fully understand what is being said, the idea behind it is cats (Neko) in pots or pans (nabe) and in some cases, cooking them to make food (like in this game). Of course, it's a video game, so you probably shouldn't take it too seriously in this case.
The game itself is relatively simple but fun. The idea is to trap giant cats inside a magic forcefield and then roast them with powerful magic. The stages are set up in Pac-Mania mazes of sorts (complete with a jumping heroine) and you must collect gems of different colors to lay traps of different colors. The cats only get caught in a field of their color. Doing bigger chains creates more cats and they become more aggressive. The game becomes really frantic when there are cats all over the place.
The game has decent music and so-so visuals. Part of the actual Nekonabe song from Stepmania is also included (played during the game's demonstration and title screen). There are normal Nekonabe videos that are "cute". Enjoy.
