Nemo (Arcade) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Capcom's 1990 action-platformer arcade game, Nemo.
Played through on the default difficulty level.
Nemo was, like Willow, The Punisher, and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, was a Capcom game based on an outside IP and developed for the CPS-1 arcade platform. Alongside Little Nemo: The Dream Master on the NES, Capcom released Nemo to capitalize on the release of the 1989 animated film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland.
The film was an utter failure at the box office, and unfortunately, the arcade title never saw a fraction of the popularity that most of Capcom's arcade games of the time did. And like Willow, never being released on any home systems only further pushed it into obscurity.
And all of that is really too bad, because Nemo is quite a good game. It's a standard platformer in which you run around hopping on things and shooting them with your magic wand. It lacks the complexity of the NES game - there are no labyrinthine stages full of keys this time - but the straightforward platforming feels smooth thanks to the responsive controls and the somewhat low difficulty level. The entire thing isn't a cakewalk, but it's clear that Capcom was targeting the kiddies with this one.
The graphics and sound are just as you'd expect from Capcom. That is to say, they're awesome. The level of detail and the style is beautiful- those backdrops feature loads of multi-plane scrolling and bright colors, and it is quite clear that a lot of time and talent was invested in them. Some of the bosses (like the Nightmare King) are absolutely huge, and the animation for just about everything is top-notch for a game from 1990. The music is equally as good at evoking a mood and keeping things light, and though it isn't nearly as memorable as the graphics, it's quite a good match for the action.
If you like old arcade platformers, I'd absolutely recommend it. Whether or not you've seen the movie that it's based on, it's hard to imagine anyone not having fun while playing it.
