NES Challenge - Bases Loaded II Games 21-40 [196/714]
EDIT - Uploaded the 41-60 video and noticed the count was off - I played game 27 twice in a row. Won both, but damn it. :( This is at roughly the 3:14:00 and 3:45:20 marks.
Well, I'm getting better at the game, as to be expected with practice. At game 40 I still don't care for the outfield view. Getting better at the defense view on the 3rd base side.
Learned a trick for picking off runners but you sometimes have to manipulate it. In many cases after a single is hit, the play ends, and you return to the pitching screen, throw to second, move straight up in to the outfield, and watch the runner slowly advance. Once they get to the 3/4 mark, throw back to second, and immediately to first. This MAY cause an out of first, but more likely they will try to steal second again. Chase after them holding up, once they get into the dirt, throw to second and they will get picked off in the slide. IF mistimed and they start heading back to first, don't get excited and throw right away, chase them a bit and throw as they hit the dirt there; you may pick them off on first or simply repeat the process - Don't forget to release down or you will throw to home. Also if you throw early, by the time the ball gets to first and you throw it back to second, the runner will be there. Just be a bit patient.
As for pitching, it may just be the team or the pitcher I select, but the normal ball seems to get the most fouls and missed swings. On the other hand when I'm batting, I can miss quite a few myself. Normally it makes sense - too early or late, but other times I have no idea and no reference as to why so I cannot correct the behavior/swing. While I do enjoy this view of the game, makes it look like you are watching on TV, the batting just feels off. Not much else to say except I feel like I haven't been playing Philly enough, maybe I will get slammed with them in the next 20 games.
