I have never played more than the tutorial/prologue in Neverwinter Nights 2. Apart from the fact that this poorly optimized mess required a much beefier gaming PC than I had access to in 2006, the awful controls and frustrating user interface presented a seemingly insurmountable barrier to entry even after I got the hardware to actually run it. You'd think it wouldn't be that difficult to simply keep iterating on Baldur's Gate's RTS-inspired mouse-driven setup, but for whatever reason NWN 2 complicates things to an astonishing degree by introducing three separate (equally mandatory) camera/control schemes and throwing in lots of confusing sub-menus for good measure. On a more superficial note, this was and remains to this day one of the least attractive CRPG ever made and even looks subjectively worse (given the time it was released, compared with similar games etc.) than the underwhelming Neverwinter Nights did four years earlier.

All this being said, since a lot of people seem to think that NWN2 is a decent enough game and that Mask of the Betrayer in particular is worth experiencing at least once, I've always meant to give Obsidian's hefty D&D RPG another try. Now I've finally managed to get through the opening West Harbor/Ruins sections of the main campaign for the first time ever and started my journey towards the titular city, and acquiring some actual party members and satisfying AoE spells definitely make the game more enjoyable. Too bad the voice acting is not exactly up to Bioware standards...
