The DS No 8 marks the beginning of a new chapter for the French automaker DS Automobiles, adopting a fresh approach to car design, engineering, and marketing. This high-riding fastback, drawing inspiration from models like the Peugeot 408 and e-3008, represents a crucial step for the brand, especially as it aims to recover from a 25 percent drop in European sales in 2024, down to 35,000 units. With profitability targets set for 2031, DS must establish itself firmly in the market, or it risks being discontinued by its parent company, Stellantis.

Unlike its sibling brands Peugeot and Vauxhall, which offer both electric and internal combustion engine options on their vehicles, DS has committed to an all-electric future. The DS No 8 will debut as an electric vehicle only, in line with the brand’s strategy to phase out internal combustion engines for its next-generation lineup.

The DS No 8 adopts a new naming system, inspired by French fashion house Chanel’s iconic products like No 5 and No 19 perfumes. This strategy will influence upcoming models, including the successor to the DS 3, showcasing a rebranding effort for DS Automobiles.

Underpinned by the STLA Medium platform, the DS No 8 has been reengineered with a focus on aerodynamic performance. According to design chief Thierry Métroz, the team prioritized aerodynamic efficiency during the design process, working closely with engineers from the outset. The result is a sleek, low roofline, measuring six centimeters lower than that of the Peugeot 3008, contributing to an impressive drag coefficient of 0.24. This efficiency allows the vehicle, equipped with the same 97.2 kilowatt-hour battery as the e-3008 Long Range, to achieve a superior range of 466 miles.

Inside the cabin, DS has implemented innovative energy-saving features. The seats include neck warmers, which are more efficient than traditional heaters, using five to ten percent less energy. Heated seats are also standard, further enhancing energy conservation.

The minimalist interior design is a radical departure from DS’s current models. The dashboard has been stripped of traditional buttons, consolidating controls within a centrally mounted 16-inch infotainment screen. A unique four-spoke steering wheel and geometric panels add to the futuristic ambiance.

The DS No 8 will be available in three configurations. The entry-level version offers a single motor with 256 brake horsepower and a range of 355 miles. The mid-range option enhances range to 466 miles with a larger battery, while the top-tier model features dual motors for all-wheel drive, delivering 370 brake horsepower and a range of 426 miles.

Pricing is set between 60,000 and 75,000 euros in Europe, with UK pricing expected to be competitive. Deliveries in the United Kingdom are planned for late next year, signaling an ambitious comeback for DS Automobiles.
