MS-DOS, which stands for Microsoft Disk Operating System, is a rebranded version of 86-DOS. Originally known as QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), 86-DOS was developed by Tim Paterson and owned by Seattle Computer Products. Microsoft acquired the rights to 86-DOS, modified it, and launched it as MS-DOS, which went on to become one of the most widely used operating systems in the early personal computing era.
