New Obsidian 2/28 Compiling Instructions (thanks to Dasho!)
A couple days ago, I went to zdoom forums and said I believed the source code for the new Obsidian had errors, but I was proved wrong. (Obsidian is the random level designer for doom, heretic, hexen, and more, the logical continuation of the Oblige+Obaddon program.) Dasho helped me figure out it could not find my fltk package, but my build environment was heavily modified and screwed up (my fault). He not only setup a Linux virtual machine and did everything from scratch... he gave me the complete commandline compilation instructions. This video would not be possible without his help, so thank you dasho!
I was reading the release notes for the last couple interim versions released after beta 19, and I was really impressed. There are new prefabs, and hexen wads are working! It should be noted that hexen wad creation is still in the "experimental" phase, but I couldn't wait to try it anyway!
First, I walk you through step-by-step installing dependencies and compiling source code, then I go play hexen for a few minutes and have some fun! One last thing, if you haven't used it, you don't know what you're missing. Obsidian is much more than a random level designer, because it has a lot of settings that shape level architecture, monster strength and quantity, theme mixing, boss levels, extra resources, modded game extras, ambient sounds and so much more!
-----Thanks-----
Dasho for making this video possible, for the compilation instructions, and helping me with my own personal dependency problems
