This is the Carrier Update which is going to be available from the 10th of January and it not only brings this massive change to gameplay but new carrier dedicated ship hulls, several types of launchable strike craft, new ship components, new missiles and other weapon types, but also a new AI made from scratch. If playing vs other players put you off from getting started with NEBULOUS you can no longer use that as an excuse. Also the developer gave us a short explanation about the singleplayer campaign they plan to create as their next content update. But more on that later in the video.
Now do note, some previously available ships will be able to attach landing docks to a few specific points on their hull and launch the lighter types of strike craft like skiffs for example to act as scouts, early warning detection systems and interceptors of either missiles or enemy strike craft.
When it comes to the completely new ship hulls, those specifically designed for launching strike craft in mass, we have the Journeyman class light carrier for the Protectorate faction. It comes with two large landing pads and two smaller ones, with room for one extra small landing pad as a module.
While the Alliance faction has received the Levy escort carrier. This one also sports two large landing pads but four small landing pads as opposed to the two on the Journeyman. It is a far more massive ship, with extra space but also costing more points.
This is the reason the Protectorate faction had to receive an overhauled version of the Moorline hull which can now become a fleet carrier and offset the Alliance’s much heavier new carrier hull, the mentioned Levy.
As for the launchable craft, each faction gets three unique spaceframes, while the seventh, called the Halberd skiff, represents a shared design, used by both factions. The Protectorate faction has received the Barracuda Strike fighter, the Pike scout craft, and the Sturgeon bomber. On the Alliance side you will be able to utilize the Tanto interceptor, Sundial early warning and control special purpose craft and the Claymore bomber.
