A Sony patent is hinting at Backwards Compatibility with PlayStation 4 games coming to the PS5. With the title "remastering by emulation", it describes a technology that allows developers to update their game assets to automatically increase texture quality, though frame rate and resolution will likely also be possible to be boosted. What does this mean for games like Death Stranding and The Last of Us 2? Will we see them on PS4, will they launch on PS5, or are they made available on both systems via this Back Compat feature? No matter what, expect an announcement of the PS5 somewhere early 2019 or 2020 with a release date later in that year. Here are my thoughts.
