9-7, and 9-8. These are the last two stages in the game that may be of the hardest to clear. I have heard (and seen) that 9-7 is ungodly unforgiving if you want the Star Coins. And reasonably so because 70% of the level consists of Frozen Munchers. 9-8 is also quite challenging, but fun.... unless you have Toad...

9-7: A stage full of iced Munchers (than can be melted with fire) and Venus Fire Traps. There are also Goombas in a bush barricade of sorts.

I am thoroughly surprised at how the difficulty of this stage is inversely proportional to how fast you clear it. There are goombas hidden inside a prickly bush that will hurt you on contact. You can burn it with fire to get the Goomba out, then jump on them.

Now with this stage. the Venus Fire Traps will shoot fire towards you, but are set up in such a way that they will more often then not, hit a frozen Muncher. once they unfreeze, it will be bad to step on that spot. So the longer you take to move ahead, the more ground the VFTs will melt, putting you in trouble.

In the later half, a straigt line of frozen Coins will lead all the way to the end of the level. VFTs from above and below can melt the bridge piece by piece. It gets hard to cross, and also poses a threat to slip down. There are times where you think to wall-jump, but by the time you react, you've already plummeted down below. Oh... and by Star Coin #3, they toss 2 Fire Bros at you... nice isn't it?

So what solution could I come up with that works very well? Use a Power Star and Speedrun the first ⅓ of the level... or rather, pretty much the whole stage, I mean wow, I'm still having a hard time believing I've done what you see here. Enjoy a number of VFTs being exterminated in this burst.

9-8 Here's an auto-scrolling stage littered with bouncy clouds that make you bound high into the air. There are a lot of Fuzzies in this stage too, so be careful where you leap. There is also a few King Bills, probably the largest ammunition you have ever seen. King Bill puts Bonzai Bill to shame by filling ½ of the screen, smashing any bricks/blocks/players in it's way!

Somebody make a video of this stage with 4 players bouncing around to the House of Pain. No seriously, this needs to be done!

Wow, what a fun stage... unless you happen to be saving a Toad. Then it becomes hell. See, those cloud-like rectangles will always bounce you up. So if you drop Toad onto them, then he's pretty much not coming back. You cannot pick up things mid-air as far as I know. You can TRY to Butt-Stomp him forward to the next solid platform, but good luck not missing every time.

So yeah, get hit and you'll drop Toad. Then wave goodbye as he jumps around endlessly, or until something kills him. But I won't let that happen. Look, Toad actually got the Red Coins this time! Pretty awesome.

With this, I have finished the game to completion. All stages cleared, All Exits uncovered, All Star Coins collected with all Cannons Fired = 5 Stars.

Note: Mario leaves his hat off when you have 99 lives.
