Get the most out of Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends for Playstation 2.

This is a very common mistake that people make about this game. What many people do not realize is that "Xtreme Legends" is essentially an expansion to the original game--in some ways an update.

Samurai Warriors 2 was released for in the US in 2006
Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends was released for the PS2 and Xbox 360 only in 2008.

For the PS2, the game data has to be loaded each time you want to use it. If you want more than six Story Modes in XL, then you use this Import function and get access to everyone's Story Modes (Which must be done if you want all the 5th Ultimate Weapons).

For the Xbox 360, you must download the content for a set number of Microsoft Points, and install it. Once it is installed, you do not need to do it again, and you can start up XL with full data loaded every time.

For PC: You're out of luck. Koei never even bothered with the PC version too much, let alone the expansion. They did release like a version 1.1 patch for the game, but it fixes almost nothing while breaking other things.

If you own both disks on the PS2 and this still doesn't work, then you have a major issue. Anything from a scratched/damaged disc to a disc from the wrong region. You have to have an SW2 disc that matches the region of XL for this to work. Xbox doesn't really have this issue since you can just download it.

From here, I'm going to quote a section of Page 11 from the Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends Instruction Manual:

"If you own Samurai Warriors 2, you can load data into this game. You will be able to select the officers that were available in the previous game, as well as the game modes found in it.

◄ Using the REMIX feature ►
Select "Import" from the menu. Following the instructions on screen, insert the Samurai Warriors 2 game disc. Once the data has been loaded, if you press the (on/standby) button, RESET button or unplug your Playstation® 2 computer entertainment system, then you will loose the data.

◄ Additional Features ►
In Story Mode, you will be able to select stages from SW2. You will also be able to obtain 5th weapons for characters from SW2, the maximum level will increase from 50 to 70, and you can learn new charge attacks. If some characters are already of a certain level when you load data from the original game, then you may start with the new charge attacks already. Player 2 can choose any of the characters from Samurai Warriors 2 (all of them) at anytime.

You will be able to play the Survival and Sugoroku Modes. Also, you will be able to choose from all of the characters across both games."

So the moral of the story is: Read your Instruction Manuals. You never know, you might just find your answer inside. If you don't have the manual, then you can also research it. Koei has an official website for this game, no joke. There you go.
