Welcome to day four of Next Fest demos! My community gave me a bunch of games to try out!

Rose Cottage - 00:05:58 - You are Detective Inspector Edward Barrington, the most english sounding man possible. You get called up by your wife to investigate your father-in-law's mortuary business, because something weird is going on: all the employees have disappeared, and there's an odd sound from the attic. You of course agree, and off you pop to the spooky manor to start poking your nose where it doesn't belong. This is a point and click adventure game through and through. Great writing, good acting, rich visuals and sounds, and puzzles all the way down. What's more is that it has a lot of the QoL things you want from adventure games these days: interactive highlights, quick travel, and text skipping. I was very impressed with Rose Cottage and I'll be picking it up for sure.

Linkito - 01:28:18 - Welcome to the future! It's terrible here and most of the world is ruined. Not for you though! You have been invited to live in the only remaining city, and to do so you have to *checks notes* get tricked into learning the fundamentals of programming and engineering. That's right: it's another one of those games! You learn how to create circuits, how switches work, etc. They've wrapped the whole thing in a very stylish veneer and story, but in the end that's what this game is. If that's a style of game you're into: I'm certain you'll enjoy everything Linkito has to offer.

Cosmic Cursor - 02:07:02 - A fairly straight-forward roguelite game where your cursor is your ship, and everything wants to kill it. There's different styles of ships you can pilot, and each run allows for customization as you would expect for the genre. There's also meta progression that allows you to upgrade the different playstyles, as well as run modifiers that can further customize your experience. I was terrible at this game (as I am with most of its kind) but it was fast, smooth, and challenging. Its a great game when you need something to play for 15-30 minutes between other things. Quick to pick up and put down.

Tiny Bookshop - 02:23:13 - You're sick of your life and wish to start a new one elsewhere. You decide the best way to do that is to get a trailer, fill it with used books, and cart it off to a town full of reading nerds to sell them off! This is an extremely flippant primer on what is easily the most charming game I played during next fest. Everything about this game is lovely and relaxing, which is amazing when you realize that you are playing a management sim. You have to figure out what books to stock day after day, and what you stock differs where you set up shop. You can buy up decorations to influence people, as well as more book stock. You will get to know the characters of the town and help them out. Oh, and you can pet the dog.
