3I really enjoy when games give players the ability to make morally grey decisions. Every good choice doesn't need to be immediately rewarded, and taking the bad option shouldn't always lead to a negative outcome. Then again, The Consuming Shadow is part of the horror genre, so I probably should have known better than to think picking up a random hitchhiker would be a good idea..

Independently developed and published by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, The Consuming Shadow is an atmospheric side-scrolling survival horror game that mixes story-rich random events, procedurally generated locations, tense combat, and Roguelite-style permadeath mechanics. Players travel across a fictional version of Great Britain searching for clues that will not only reveal which of the Ancient Ones is trying to enter our world, but also how to stop them.
No matter how often you check your notes, the conclusions are always the same: In three days time, one of the Ancients will use the ruins of Stonehenge to enter our world. Finding the forgotten runes of the Ritual of Banishment is the only way to stop them. Still, you can't shake the feeling that all of this has either happened before.. or is currently happening in an alternate reality. Another god, invading another United Kingdom, confronted by another Ministry - and maybe even another you.
