I've always wondered how my second capture card (the StarTech one) would handle 240p content through Component video. As it turns out, it's... competent enough at it. It's not as pinpoint sharp as I'd like it to be, but at the same time, most capture cards (and most setups period) are a bit wonky with 240p signals, so I'll take what I can get here.
So what game prompted me to see if 240p worked fine on this capture card? Nicktoons Racing, a rather late PlayStation release that first appeared on... Windows, oddly enough. It can also be argued that this is the first appearance of SpongeBob in a console game, so there's that. Also this game manages to get around the PS1's texture warping issues rather competently, at the expense of a rational frame rate. It's also surprisingly expensive on eBay.
I also got to learn that the PlayStation 2 will allow optical audio output in PS1 games. Not only that, but it also outputs it at its native 44.1kHz sample rate! Which genuinely surprised me. I was expecting it to upsample and I wouldn't have had a problem with that, but no, Sony went the extra mile with PS1 audio emulation here.
