NieR: Automata | Devola & Popola’s Sacrifice
28After making his way through the three sub-towers, the two red-haired twins, Devola and Popola sacrifice themselves to help 9S open the door to the final Tower. The twin’s previous models from the original NieR were responsible for the death of mankind causing them to be outcasted by all androids. As punishment, the Devola and Popola line of twin androids were discontinued and gotten rid of, except for one pair – the pair that exist in NieR: Automata. Current generation Devola and Popola took on this burden and feel as they must atone for the sins of those past models.
A2 also follows 9S into the Tower where they both meet up with conceptional human personalities that were constructed inside the machine network. It is here where they will learn the truth of Project YoRHa.
