You can make an argument that Nintendo Direct is one of the most influential series on the entire internet. Giving a much more focused, timely, and efficient method of delivering news to fans. Before the age of the internet and access to online video became widespread, information and footage of upcoming games was much harder to get out there and to hunt down. You either saw some screenshots in a magazine or online forum describing what the game is like and just hoping for the best, or you went on IGN or GameTrailers to watch a 240p, barley describable group of pixels that took you 5 minuets to download and only lasted 1 minute. Companies rented out the expensive venues or floorspaces to hold their press conferences in to add some perceived value of entertainment beside the games, which ultimately distracted on what people really wanted to see, THE GAMES. Nintendo, like all other companies, did this as well for their E3 and other gaming press conferences. theirs were probably the best out of all of them….


However… with such ease of access to news and information and the increasing Para social connection between fans and companies, discourse around Nintendo Directs have become….quite lively to say the least. Hype of Nintendo Directs can get to UNREAL levels of big, especially during summer when most big gaming news comes out. Discussion and speculation on what could even be mentioned by daddy Nintendo flutter the internet and bringing the hype levels up even more in the process. And, after almost every Direct, there is a sizeable chunk of fans who will literally start going into a full blown man fit over the fact that (specific game person wanted) was not there and Nintendo has forsaken the fans and they will never buy a Nintendo game again
