Ok so, Mario Strikers Battle League just released and I have played the game and honestly, playing the game made me kind of sad, and so in this video I’ll be talking about how Nintendo ruined Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Alrighty, I wanna start the video off by saying that the core gameplay in Mario Strikers Battle League is amazing. The matches are really fun and intense, the music bangs, the sound effects are perfect and the game oozes personality.

Yet Nintendo somehow managed to mess the game up. While the actual gameplay is incredibly fun, there is so much missing from the game. Firstly, there is no single player campaign or story mode, anywhere to be seen. Mario Golf Super Rush and Mario Tennis Aces both had story modes and while they weren’t amazing, at least they had single player content.

In Mario Strikers: Battle League, there are quick matches which are good fun, but I don’t know how many quick matches you’ll be able to play before you get bored. The other offline mode is cup battles, which are basically just consecutive quick matches that progressively get harder.

Then online, instead of having a simple ranked mode where you can play whenever you want against people around your skill level whilst you try to reach a higher rank, we got Strikers Club. Don’t get me wrong, Strikers Club does seem like a cool idea but come on, is a ranked mode that much to ask for?

But not only is the game lacking single player content, it’s lacking characters and fields. There are only ten characters in the game and if you think that’s a lot of characters, Mario Strikers: Charged on the Wii had 12 characters and it was released in 2007, so over 15 years ago. Like that’s just sad.

Then with the pitches or fields that you actually play on, the two colours of the field change depending on who the captains of both teams are which is cool I guess, and the customisation options you have are changing the field from night time, to day time. That’s pathetic.

And yes I know there are going to be free DLC updates, I already made a whole video on how those free DLC updates are awful, you can watch that video by clicking on the little card in the top right hand corner of the screen, I honestly couldn't be bothered ranting about why I hate free DLC updates, so just go watch that video.

Now I do not think the lack of content is the development team's fault. Next Level Games are the team behind Mario Strikers Battle League, and they generally make really great games that have a lot of content.

What I think happened is that people high up at Nintendo gave Next Level Games impossible deadlines so that Nintendo is able to release another Mario game before the financial year ends in just over 20 days, and so that’s why I think the game is missing so much content. It’s honestly quite sad as Mario Strikers: Battle League had the potential to be one of the best Mario spin off games ever but Nintendo just had to rush out another Mario game before the financial year end.
