795Welcome to Dean of Doom, the show where we give grades to classic and contemporary Doom wads. Why? Because ranking things is fun. Today Dean of Doom Season 3 comes to a close, but the show’s not done yet. Not quite.
Daniel "Dannebubinga" Jakobsson and Zachary "Ribbiks" Stephens released four prominent wads before Sunlust: Crumpets, Combat Shock, Combat Shock 2, and Stardate 20X6. Taken together, they form a preview of what was on the horizon. Containing glimmers of Final Doom, Hell Revealed, the Scythes, Speed of Doom, and Sunder, this hazy nebula would come together in 2015 to form a star. I thought it would be fun to end the season with a super-teaser for Dean of Doom's last ride, but don't mistake this for an exhibition of mere curiosities: all four of these wads are classics which inspired a multitude of creators. I hope today's episode captures a small part of this tetralogy's magic, grandeur, brilliance, and brutality.
