Update: As of snapshot 23w43a, the 1-wide tileable design in the video is obsolete. Here is an improved version that uses copper bulbs instead of pistons for the flip-flop:

(Copper bulbs don't conduct redstone signal, so powering them directly with an observer is 1WT-safe.)

A few designs I came up with for automatic item compactors. The first one is the absolute bare-bones minimum that you need to compact the output of your farms, but isn't tileable. The second one is a little bit more expensive, but is one-wide tileable, making it ideal for higher-output farms like gold and bamboo. By disabling the appropriate slots on the crafters, these can also be used for any recipe that only uses one type of item.

While a block-by-block tutorial for these designs probably isn't super necessary, I'll try my best to answer any questions in the comments. Just make sure to fill the composters all the way up to generate a signal strength of 8.
