We move deeper into the root earth, fighting some really gnarly enemies. And boy they sure love to make themselves feel special.

Cancer is the first Root entity you have to face in this world. The arena for this fight is wide open due to how massive the AOE is for most of Cancer's moveset.

From the beginning of the fight, Cancer will utilize its root tendrils from afar to limit your space with barriers. Using the now limited room, Cancer usually follows the root tendrils with a lunge three-hit melee combo—dodge to either side and keep an eye on the boss.

A lot of its attacks are telegraphed by head movement. For example, Cancer will look to the ground before lunging at you or look up to do its AOE root tendrils. After 50% hp, it will glitch out, moving fast toward you.

The first attack is a glitch feint to fake you out; you'll want to dodge the melee hits after that attack.
Sometimes, the boss will jump back toward the back of the arena, causing a shockwave that covers the entire ground. Time your dodge accordingly.

The best opening to freely attack it is after its headbutt lunge—this move will cause Cancer to get stuck in the ground. Use this opportunity to heal as well, if necessary.
Though its weak spot is hard to hit for most of the fight, its chest and head are excellent areas to aim for, as those will still take standard damage.

Defeating Cancer will land you in the Corrupted Harbor next. The first part of this area contains two substantial open areas with tons of enemies.

The first one has two giant Root Walkers; they will spawn lesser minions when alerted to you.
Focus all your attacks on the Root Walkers, as their minions will die when you kill them.
There is a small tunnel right before the second open area that'll lead you to the Decayed Heart (Relic).
The second area also has two giant Root Walkers, but a Root Shade will teleport from the back to join the fight.

You can grab the attention of the first Root Walker and kill it before the shade joins in. Once you've gotten rid of the first root walker, focus on killing the Root Shade; its AOE spells are extremely strong and will make it difficult for you to maneuver around the arena.
Once you've reached the first World Shard, go through past the fog door and complete the horde event. You can unlock the path to the loot you see in front of the World Shard shortly after this objective.
Completing the objective will net you the Wayfarer trait.
There's also a Tome of Knowledge you can pick up on the second floor's control room.

Before heading towards the next arena, there's a path you can take that'll lead you to an open area containing the Escalation Protocol (Amulet).
The entrance to that path is right below the control room.
Be wary, though, as several enemies guard the item, including a Lesser Cancer.
Once you've looted the amulet, keep moving and unlock the locked door to access the shortcut.

Next, go up the giant root to your right, drop down, and look behind the vast root wall. Grab the Decayed Claws (Melee Weapon), turn around, and the Probability Cord (Ring) will be on the other side of the World Shard.
The last item you can grab in this zone is the Kinetic Cycle Stone (Ring), located behind the set of stairs right before the final World Shard.

When ready, head towards the next area to face Venom.
Venom is undoubtedly the most challenging boss fight in the game outside the final boss. Using various melee, range, and summons, he can overwhelm you quickly in the limited space arena.

Before engaging him, head towards the exit area, as this will give you the most space to deal with Venom's swift attacks.
His three-hit sword combo usually follows his other moves, especially when he throws his sword and launches toward it.
Venom will levitate and launch root bombs at you.
His sword throw will usually happen from the air as well.
Venom will sometimes fly up and slam the ground, damaging everything around him in a small area.
One of the most devastating attacks from his arsenal is his pillar beams—Venom will start using this move after you drop him to around 30% health.

His pillar beams sometimes overlap and can kill you if hit twice, so be wary of where you dodge.
He can impale his sword into the ground to create root spikes.
The spikes will launch root bombs, serving as range support. The hitbox on these spikes is tiny, so it's best to use a weapon with a large spray pattern or high fire rate to kill it fast. Otherwise, move out of its range and ignore it.
