On this day, a small Vtuber experienced a Christmas miracle that changed online entertainment forever. On December 25, 2017, Tokino Sora’s YouTube channel experienced a sudden surge in popularity. At the time, Sora was the first and only “virtual idol” working for a relatively unknown Japanese agency called Hololive Production, and after debuting in September of that year, she amassed a small but respectable following of roughly 1000 subscribers. Then, on Christmas, she had the amazing luck of being one of the only Vtubers streaming during prime time in Japan. Her stream, in which she showed off a new Christmas outfit for her 3d model, attracted over 1000 simultaneous viewers, and her subscriber count increased to over 10,000 shortly thereafter.
