119Bitcoin's price retreat Wednesday morning retraced during the hours that followed in a move that two trading firms have chalked up to institutional buying activity. The price of bitcoin climbed from its lows Wednesday morning at $30,000 to above $40,000 — a more than 30% appreciation within a few hours. Aya Kantorovich, head of institutional sales for FalconX, told The Block: "TradFi asset managers are buying on our end.
Ether prices fell sharply today, dropping to nearly $1,900, their lowest since early April, amid a broader sell-off in digital currencies. The cryptocurrency, which is the native token of the Ethereum platform, declined to $1,902.08, according to CoinDesk data. When it reached this level, ether was down more than 56% from the all-time high of nearly $4,400 that it reached earlier this month, additional CoinDesk figures reveal. In spite of these recent losses, traders should remember that the digital currency has experienced some astronomical gains this year, climbing from under $750 to roughly $4,380.
Taproot now has more than the required minimum of miners signaling support to lock in the upgrade, but the upgrade isn’t a shoe-in just yet. Per the activation rules set by Speedy Trial, 90% of blocks mined within one of Bitcoin’s difficulty periods need to signal support for the upgrade for it to be locked in for activation in November.
