Despite several objections from Roy Disney and the old guard on the Disney Board (likely placated when Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg agreed to let Roy produce a sequel in the near future), Fantasia was released to video for a strict fifty day timeline on November 1st, 1991. It quickly became one of Home Video's all time best sellers, selling nearly fourteen million copies and giving Disney a huge holiday season boost that would only be further buoyed by the success of Beauty and the Beast in theaters. Fantasia returned to the Disney Vault after Christmas 1991.
