Opening Hour: Flynn: Son of Crimson (Xbox Series X)
0Yet another day one release on Game Pass, and a great one at that. Flynn: Son of Crimson was kickstarted way back in 2017 and at some point was picked up for publishing by Humble Games, a spinoff of Humble Bundle. Humble Games has a deal to publish all their new releases for the foreseeable future as day one releases on Game Pass, which is great news if you're a subscriber. The game itself is a 2D action platformer with a nice art style and some pretty good dialogue. This opening hour barely scratches the surface of what's available. I didn't even reach a place to spend my crimson currency, something I assume becomes an important aspect later on. The game just feels good to play, which is the most important thing for a platformer in my opinion. I never felt frustrated with any of the jumps or puzzles, but they added a nice variety. The combat also feels snappy, with a great dodge roll that I failed to fully utilize. Also you can and do pet the dog.
Flynn: Son of Crimson is described on Steam as follows: "Help Flynn and his mythical companion Dex save Rosantica before the evil from The Scourge claims his home. In Flynn: Son of Crimson, you’ll go on a journey of discovery and conflict as you learn to master the power of Crimson Energy."
