Orchestra Hits in 8 and 16-bit Games - NintendoComplete
This is a collection of examples of 8 and 16-bit console games that made use of the "orchestra hit."
Anyone that was around in the 80s and 90s knows the orchestra hit. They might not know what it's called, but whether they're thinking of Michael Jackson, The Prodigy, or Konami, they've certainly heard it more times than they can remember.
Is there any sound more iconic of the era it hails from?
There are examples from fifty-five games here, so while this is by no means an exhaustive list, it does provide a good representative sampling. It even includes Jock Jams, so that's a plus, right?
I've grouped everything by system:
NES 0:04
TurboGrafx-16 1:59
Sega Genesis 2:21
SNES 5:04
Some are based on Granddaddy ORCH5, while others are brassier and more synthetic twists on the original idea, but they all deliver a pretty satisfying aural smash.
(Well okay, they all try. Many succeed.)
If you'd like to see more of any of the games shown here, be sure to check out my playlists. I've done playthroughs of all but a couple of these games.
