Fix your suit
When you spawn in you will already have a damaged suit which is hemeraging oxygen at an alarming rate. While this doesn't seem like a great place to start in it is easily fixed. You should already have duct tape in your inventory. In fact in the current version it is already in your hotbar under number 3. Equip it an press use until your suit is back at 100%

Grab a weapon
There are some really nasty creatures hanging out on this planet that seem to think you will Make a tasty meal, on top of this you have found yourself completley unarmed! Don't worry too much though. There are some boxes near where you spawned. One of them houses a pistol (which has unlimited ammo), an assault rifle and some magazines full of ammo for the latter. Grab the weapons and add them to your hotbar so you have quick access when you need to defend yourself.

Hold onto some food.
When you do have an encounter with a member of the planets indigenous population, provided you win the fight and kill the creature it will likely drop meat. Hold onto this as you will need to eat at some point.

Don't bite off more than you can chew
When you find your first shiny node of precious resource it will be tempting to mine as much as you can. The only problem with this is that you inventory size is pretty small to start with and with nowhere to store items right at the start you will end up having to drop what you collected in order to pick up the next resource. Don't waste your time and just take what you need.

Use your map to not get lost.
Later on in the game you can add beacons which I have a full guide about which I will link in the descriptions but even from the start of the game you can use your map to get back to your spawn point and even your dead body if you die so you can get your stuff back. Just Equip the map and click the use button to cycle between waypoints.
