Othello (Nintendo Switch) Review | 8-Bit Eric
108This is a review of Othello for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. This is based on the classic board game. Othello is played by two players that take turns to place their tiles on the board – one player using white tiles, and the other black tiles.
Players take turns placing a single chip on the board, and can convert chips already on the board by trapping them between two of their own color. Chips can be converted across horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines, and you can trap multiple chips in multiple directions with a single move. The game ends when either all 64 spaces on the board are filled, or no more moves are possible.
Othello on Switch has two options: 1P vs CPU and 1P vs 2P. The CPU has 16 difficulty levels, but this game makes you use joy cons in order to play. The game isn’t compatible with the pro controller at all.
Outside of the local two-player vs. mode, Othello for the Nintendo Switch is a little light on modes or features. There is touch screen support, which is actually nice when playing the game against a live opponent on an undocked Switch.
It’s hard to recommend getting Othello on the Switch, there are multiple alternatives on the App Store or Google Play, that are similarly portable on your phone and all available without spending a penny.
