Astro Duel Deluxe (Nintendo Switch) Review | 8-Bit Eric
This is a review of Astro Duel Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. Astro Duel Deluxe is Asteroids with deathmatch modes. Its a retro looking arena multiplayer game that has a bit of throwback to the likes of Astroids and Combat on the 2600. There is no campaign, and there is no story. It is a very heavy local multiplayer party game. Astro Duel Deluxe supports up to six players in various configurations.
The majority of the game focus is on local multiplayer. Astro Duel Deluxe doesn’t have much to offer as a single player. The game is split between three party modes that feature a combination of player and bot options. These modes include Classic, Party and Chaos.
Players control a triangle-shaped spacecraft with a simple blaster on its point and a thruster. Holding down the ship's booster will catapult your geometric craft through the darkness of space. Players compete to score points (for pilot or ship kills depending on the mode) across multiple stages
In Astro Duel Deluxe, players simply navigate their ship around a small, single screen arena that may or may not feature hazards such as walls, meteors and laser beams. There are also power ups that spawn in each arena (shields, spread-shots, missiles, jousting attachments and more) .
Astro Duel Deluxe has a touch screen mode for up to four players, each ship moves forward automatically, and the player has two “wedge” shaped buttons in their corner of the screen that allow the ship to fire or to rotate right.
Pilot Hunters, a mode where you must destroy the ships of your opponents and then their pilots. Failing to execute the pilot within a few seconds will result in their ship regenerating. Ship Hunters, is a mode where the goal is simple, destroy your opponents ship.
