So, after doing comparisons of Outrun 2's bonus stages against the original arcade tracks (from the courses from Scud Race and Daytona USA 2 that they were originally based on) in both my original Euro copy of Outrun 2 and the Japanese Version I recently *ahem* acquired, it seems only logical that the next step would be to do a comparison of the Euro and Japanese versions of Outrun 2 running side-by-side.

So here it is.

To be a bit different, I've used the arranged version of 'Sprinter' from Super Hang-On as the backing BGM for this video. I originally recorded the Japanese version without any background BGM so I could match it up better to the videos of the arcade version of Daytona USA 2 in my other video, without the Outrun soundtrack interfering with the Daytona 2 tunes. Anyway, Super Hang-On has a 'kin awesome soundtrack that I think needs far more love, and it was designed for an arcade racer so it seems like a perfect match.

The video I'm using of the Euro version of Outrun 2 is one half of a two player video I'd previously made of me racing against a friend using the Xbox System Link ability. I've muted that video entirely from that version as all you'd be able to hear otherwise is the sound of my friend constantly crashing. The fact it's a system link game and not a Vs rivals game means that when crossing the goal you get a big '1st' or '2nd' et cetera, rather than the usual screen with your time and the times of the AI racers. In the Scud Race video I've edited out parts of the bunki linking sections of the game to try and sync up the individual parts of the stages. In the Daytona courses, the two different versions actually have totally different starting places for both the 'Advanced' part of the course and the 'Expert' so I haven't tried to sync them at all and just let both courses play out normally (and indeed, the changes in the bunki section between the Advanced and Expert courses in the Japanese version is one of the notable changes.
