Another split-screen video comparison in my never ending quest to compare old Sega Racers (and other stuff)

This is technically Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (not Outrun 2) versus F355 Challenge 2 and F355 Challenge 1, but that didn't roll off the tongue quite so easily.

As Sega's two main Ferrari based racing franchises I felt compelled to make a comparison between the two games. This is the arcade version of F355 for the Sega NAOMI board being played on DEMUL. Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is the PC version.

I'm using the F355 Spider in Outrun 2006. I don't normally play Outrun 2 in first person "over the hood" mode, but as F3555 is first person only I thought I should use that viewpoint to play with. It feels very alien to me as someone who is normally resolutely a fan of the behind the car viewpoint. This is also the reason why I'm having a few more minor scrapes of the barriers and the traffic than I would do normally. The sense of speed in Outrun's first person mode is immense, F355 almost looks like it's going in slow motion by comparison, and I think this is a very good way of highlighting just why I prefer arcade racers to sim games (although it was an arcade game, F355 definitely falls more under the sim-racer type category than a 'true' arcade racer). In fairness to F355 though, I had to use Bandicam to capture the gameplay rather than FRAPS, because of the way DEMUL opens up two screens for the game (one's blank, but you need to keep it selected for your controls to work - which mean FRAPS will automatically select the wrong screen). Although Bandicam was supposed to be recording at 60fps, I don't think it looks all that smooth, especially compared to the FRAPS videos of Outrun. This is especially more noticeable in the Bandicam footage of F355 1 in the second half of the video.

The first part of the Video is F355 Challenge 2 going head-to-head with Outrun 2006's SP tracks, I've used 6 different gameplay videos of F355 2, to illustrate how the track changes depending on what time of day and weather conditions the game is representing.. The second half of the video is F355 Challenge 1 against Outrun 2006's 'Outrun 2' tracks, this time swapping back and forth between two F355 videos with different environmental conditions.
