Panzer Dragoon Zwei is one of my favourite ever games on the Sega Saturn, if not one of my favourite games of all times. Orta is also a brilliant game, but as my first introduction to the series Zwei remains my favourite.

This is a comparison I'd been planning to do for sometime now. My original plan was to do complete side-by-side playthroughs of both games, but it'd been quite awhile since I'd last played them both and I forgot just how long Orta is in comparison to Zwei - the complete play through came in at well over 2 hours. Zwei is much shorter at just under an hour, so I decided instead to make it a complete run through of Zwei with edited highlights of Orta. One of the benefits of doing it this way meant that I could better match up some of the levels in Orta, to Zwei by playing them out of sequence, Some of the boss battles in Orta go on for absolutely ages, so I've edited most of them down a bit, likewise most of the levels of Orta that I show here.

I'd forgotten how tough the final boss is to beat in Orta as well, I got quite a spanking more than once here, before the run which I show here where actually managed to beat him. Zwei is comparatively quite a lot easier than Orta, but because it'd been a long time since I'd last played it, and I wanted to do a full playthrough without too much trouble I did set it to easy and maxed out my health and beseker bar in Pandora's Box (there are two even easier setting than just plain easy FYI). This may possibly be why the final boss didn't go onto his second form and the game just ended in the initial playthrough. I probably could've got by on 'Normal', but I didn't want to have to keep going back and redoing certain sections if I died (something that happened quite a bit in Orta). As it is though, I did specifically go back to the final stage using the level select option in Pandora's Box on 'Hard' and that seemed to do the trick.

The OG Xbox capture here is via a low budget SD RGB capture device. The video quality doesn't seem too egregious during the splitscreen stuff, but it does become more apparent in any of the full screen gameplay. You can see some lovely HD gameplay of Orta here though: https://youtu.be/rrCc4Fp68Xo
