This was made in 2018, I kept it in store to improve on it as much as I wanted without the pressure of having to upload something rushed, I was expecting it to get really low views and I wanted it to be good by the time it was uploaded. It's so old the original description for this still had the file sizes written and with no technical info. Now it is finally uploaded, because Team Sonic Racing makes racing games relevant I guess, and because I haven't felt the need to update it in 8 months, so it's as good as finished.
I never knew about this song (or game) until last year when I made this cover, and I thought the song came from OutRun 2006 Coast to Coast, but by checking Wikipedia the game apparently reuses it from OutRun2, and when searching for "outrun 2 risky ride" I basically get no results, so I can't confirm if it's right or not. I'm trusting Wikipedia on this.
About the song:
I tried to stay as close to the original as possible, but some instruments were very hard to hear, especially the kick drum for some reason, and also the bass and piano too, not to mention the piano took me the longest.
I wish I could say I used 100% only OutRun instruments, but 2 of the guitars are not from any of the games, the rule was a little too restrictive when the instruments available did not accomplish what I wanted. All other 5 instruments are, though. All the drums are from OutRunners, and some instruments are too... it's actually more of an OutRunners cover, really.
The original song has the background electric guitar on stereo, and the main guitar seems to have some reverb. This remix gives echo to the main guitar but there is no stereo for lack of room. I'm not sure if doing stereo instead of echo would've been better, I don't remember why I did it that way, I think it was because in some sections the echo had to go and was less noticeable than having the stereo go, so I went with that. This remix has higher frequencies than the original, it's the first thing you notice when comparing them.
So this took like a week to do... half of that time was just spent optimizing the DefleMask file to be less messy and fixing mistakes while doing so, the other half was just putting in the notes 'cus it's such a long song. One improvement I made while doing that was replacing some quick notes for slow notes in a faster tempo. The difference is that the "quick notes" occupy the space of one full note, but are delayed and played for an inexact fraction of time, and the "slow notes" in a faster tempo don't, but the tempo is inexact, although hardly noticeable. I didn't replace all the quick notes though, only those closer to the chorus, changing tempo midway looks and feels really messy.
If you play OutRun with no music and this song over it, it's amazing how well timed it is to the game.
