Hey guys.

Finished building my Ramiel Box for calculating anything with AMD / ATI GPUs (Bitcoin, Milkyway @ Home, etc.), and wanted to show my results!

While this system has no NERV logo yet and I might change out one more fan or so, the build is pretty much completed.

Parts:

Corsair 500R Black
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7
2x 4GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM (9-9-9-24)
AMD Athlon II X3 Tri-Core @ stock (3.2 GHz) Rana Core
Hyper 212 CPU Cooler
Dual Diamond Multimedia Radeon HD 5970s (stock cooled) @ (tempoarily) 900mhz Core / 500mhz Memory. Running standard though @ 825mhz Core from 725 stock.
LG DVD Burner
Rosewill Wireless Network USB Adapter
LEPA G900 Gold PSU
5x 120mm Aerocool Shark Blue LED Fans (one more on it's way)
3x 140mm Aerocool Shark Blue LED Fans (one to be removed eventually)

The case's MB panel did have to be drilled for a sizable hole due to Gigabyte's decission of using a right-angle PCI-E auxillary power connection for more than one GPU. The recessed indent of the case and size of the Gigabyte board made the SATA connector simply not fit with the metal ramp near the edge of the board. Once a (shakily-done) hole was made, the cale does indeed fit fine.

Anyway, as you can see and most reviewers state online, the limit of the 5970s is not the GPU cores themselves but the voltage regulators (VRMs). These quickly heat up well past 20C past whatever temperature the cores are at and will throttle at approximately 120-125 degrees C.
