Panzer Dragoon Orta (パンツァードラグーン オルタ, Pantsu~ā Doragūn Oruta) is a rail shooter developed by Smilebit and published by Sega for the Xbox released in Japan on December 19, 2002 and in North America on January 12, 2003.

Following the release of the Saturn trilogy the Panzer Dragoon studio, Team Andromeda, disbanded, and a new director Takayuki Kawagoe took the reins. A new entry in the series was being planned for the Dreamcast, but he felt the console did not meet the technical requirements for his vision.

After the failure of the Dreamcast and the resctructure of the company, the push to start publishing games on other different consoles let Takayuki Kawagoe push for a new entry on the Xbox. Which he felt was powerful enough console to fulfil his vision for the game.

Production started with the title originally being called Panzer Dragoon Vier, with "Vier" being German for "Four", but was given a different title to distance it from the other games. Akihiko Mukaiyama, who had worked at Saga as battle planner, made his debut as a director with Orta.

Kawagoe approached Mukaiyama first about the project. Mukaiyama initially declined, but he was repeatedly approached and told that the game would not be made if he were not involved. During development ten members of the original Team Andromeda and Pazner Dragoon studio returned to work on the game, with other members advising them while working on other projects.

The games soundtrack was composed by Saori Kobayashi, and Yutaka Minobe.
