In the more open spaces of Hard mode, it's easier for the Cascade ship's particles to become desynchronized if you're too erratic in your movements. While this isn't always a bad thing- sometimes you need to clear away things in multiple directions- it can affect your accuracy. There are situations where arranging the particles in a neat line might be better. That's the strength of the Cascade ship, of course- you can alternate between these formations as needed.
