Its extended combo timer may mean nothing in Asteroid mode, but the Robot ship still has good speed and range, so it's as valid a choice as anything else. Its particles also have a greater tendency to move around by themselves, so it's somewhat easier to keep them active at short range (motionless particles can't hit anything). It can fan out its particles by pushing into them, but it's harder to execute than with ships like Fast or Cascade, in my opinion.
