A Guide to Flame Totem / Firestorm leveling for caster builds and summoners in Path of Exile's Awakening Expansion - this works perfectly for Templar, Witch and Scion though for Scion you will need to trade for the gems. This setup excels in both Hardcore and Softcore leagues without any gear or leveling uniques required. It is very doable self found (with Gem muling for Scion).

Skill & Support Setup
Herald of Ice
Herald of Thunder
Flame Totem + Added Cold + Added Lightning
Fire Storm + Added Cold + Added Lightning
You can switch out Added Lightning for Faster Casting later for mobility on Firestorm.

For gear vendor craft a +1 Fire Gems Wand or Sceptre for Fire Storm. You can do the same for Flame Totem if you like but it's not mandatory if you find a decent added damage wand/sceptre.

You can do this with zero damage nodes, though obviously it's faster if you do get some.

Off class is possible if you can pick up enough main stats to make it work.
