A platform of mass M mounted on a vertical spring is made to oscillate up and down with a period T. The very moment, the platform passes its equilibrium position; it collides elastically with a small ball falling from a height. Due to the collision, speeds of the platform and the ball remain unchanged but their directions are reversed. After the collision, the platform moves downwards a distance H then starts moving up and again collides with the ball at its equilibrium position. If this process repeats indefinitely, find mass of the ball. Acceleration of free fall is g.
