RARE COLLECTIBLE #9
Romanov Silver Spoon
Approximate Value: $98,000
Clue: It’s useful when a fork won’t do, to lift things to sip or chew.
Location: Northeast Quadrant. In the bowl of metal things, to the right of the heart-shaped lock.
Clyde’s Notes: This spoon bears the unique Romanov family crest, proving that it once belonged to a set of fine silver owned by the last Czars of Russia: Nikolai II and Alexandra Feodorovna. As the Soviets came to power in 1917, the Romanov family was executed and all of their possessions were destroyed. Only a few rare artifacts remain today (like this spoon) as it was deemed unlawful in Russia to own any item that was once owned by the Czar. I bought this spoon for $2 at Annie’s Antique Shop in Dorchester,. It may be worth a significant sum to a Russian antiquities collector.

RARE COLLECTIBLE #10
Albert’s Gift
Approximate Value: $201,000
Clue: It’s a portrait of a future queen, carved when she was just sixteen.
Location: Northeast Quadrant. Found to the right of the blue chair.
Clyde’s Notes: Princess Victoria met her future husband, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in 1836, when she was only sixteen. In a letter that accompanied this cameo, Albert wrote, “I believe the artist has captured your delicate beauty with exquisite detail.” Victoria’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, didn’t approve of Albert’s gift and returned it. Heartbroken, Albert gave the cameo back to the craftsman who created it, who kept it on display in his shop until it was stolen and made its way through various collections. I bought this at Peterson’s Pawn Shop in Knightdale, North Carolina for $15. It could be worth a lot of money.
