RARE COLLECTIBLE #11
Jesse James Autographed Dollar Bill
Approximate Value: $425,150
Clue: These became worth more than ten, when Jesse signed them with a pen.
Location: Northwest Quadrant. In front of the white bear’s striped overalls.
Clyde’s Notes: After the South lost the Civil War, Jesse James wrote letters to newspapers, asking them to recognize him as a Confederate hero because he was robbing the establishment. One journalist with sympathy for the South called him “The Robin Hood of the Wild West”. James had a reputation for never stealing from private citizens during a robbery, so some people would cheer him on. He passed out autographed Confederate bills to encourage the crowd and increase his popularity with the public. My cousin Earl left this signed bill to me in his will. I never knew he was a Jesse James fan until after he died.
