Pencil Royale [ペンシル ロワイヤル] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
There was a lot of hype surrounding this game and the characters are apparently based off of various "Pencil" games and collaborations with others (Twinkle Crusaders, etc.), but I can't believe some of the stuff about this game. I heard things like "amazingly popular" and "Professional 3D Fighter" but don't be fooled... this game is rubbish as-is, but since the game was released not too long ago, there's still potentially room for improvement.
Using "Pencil Shaded" 3D characters and putting them in a 2D fighting game, you can choose between four primary female characters in "Story Mode" or use some additional characters in the other modes. The game prides itself on a few things, most notably its "Customization" feature, which allows you to make your own characters using a variety of presets. This would be pretty neat if the characters didn't share the same limited assortment of moves from the primary four characters; it's not just the specials however-- even every BASE attack is the same for each character from punches and kicks to throws (this even includes the PRIMARY characters)... so... good luck making a particularly cool, "original" character, as the four primary characters aren't even that cool.
Another thing that excites people about this game is the ability to "destroy" an opponent's clothes with repeated strikes. While one would think this is an adult game, most of the content appears to be appropriate for young adults (teenagers) and defeated females don't lose their tops or bottoms by default. What is present is softcore at best. However, since the site recommends 18+ to purchase the game, I'll assume it's for adults. It's a dumb mechanic anyway (you can deal extra damage when this happens). The fighting engine? Rubbish. I won't even go on a long tirade, so I'll say this: Broken combo system (if you execute the right combos, you can keep dizzying an opponent for infinites), messed up hit priorities, limited air combo potential, all characters have the same base attacks, etc.
Some things I like about the game? The close-ups when characters execute ultimate attacks, the music, the "pencil" style is interesting... I guess that's it. It's nothing at all special and looks kinda cheap with only a few select animations being decent. The game costs 5000+ yen when it came out and it doesn't even truly have four different fighters.
