♠ PC Specs
◙ CPU/Processor: Pentium 4 3.0 HT Socket 478
◙ GPU/Graphics Card: EVGA Geforce 6800 GT 128 mb AGP
◙ RAM/Memory: 2 gb (1 gb x 2) PC3200 168 pin DDR
◙ Motherboard: Abit IS7-V2
◙ Storage/Hard Drive: 80 gb

A socket 423 or a 478 Pentium 4 based computer is a great retro computer for playing games and running software from 1998 to 2006. You can also use AMD Athlon Slot A, Socket A, Socket 563, or Socket 754 to play retro games as well. Games from 1998 to 2000 requires more powerful processors, like Pentium 2 and Pentium 3 based processors. Trying to acquire such processors is very difficult, and it can get very expensive as well. Over the years, most of those vintage processors were thrown away and destroyed.

The next best thing would be to use Pentium 4 socket 423 or 478 processor based computers. Furthermore, most games from 1998 to 2000 will run on Windows XP. At times, 3d games from 1998 and 2000 will have some problems running on Windows XP, because the graphics cards that are higher than Geforce FX 5900 series will have problems displaying text on 3d accelerated games, like Blood 2, Shogo Mobile Armored Division, Crimson Skies, and others. This can be remedied by getting a Geforce 3 Ti500 or under. The best video card to get would be the following.
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
◙ 3dfx Voodoo 3 1000 to 3500
◙ 3dfx Voodoo 4 4500 to Voodoo 5 5000
◙ Nvidia Geforce 2 MX to Ultra
◙ Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti 200 to Ti 500

Those video cards will play almost every 3d game from 1998 to 2000 without problems. However, these video cards will struggle when they try to play Windows XP games produced from 2002 to 2006. Games from 2002 to 2006 will require a Geforce 3 or higher to run.
